Ecosapiens and Polygon Labs Unveil Polysapiens

Ecosapiens, a pioneering climate technology platform that leverages blockchain for creating carbon-offsetting digital collectibles, has joined forces with Polygon Labs, the growth and development team for the Polygon protocol, to introduce the first series of carbon-capture digital art collectibles. This collaboration marks a significant step towards blending blockchain, NFT technology, and sustainability initiatives, enabling corporations to implement impactful climate-friendly projects.

Dubbed “Polysapiens,” the digital art collection is presented as a new medium for corporations to leverage blockchain and NFT technology for their sustainability goals. In a bid to educate and involve the broader Polygon ecosystem, Polysapiens is available for free minting to all collectors, creators, and members of the Polygon community.

The Polysapiens collection comprises unlimited 1 of 1 carbon-backed digital art collectibles, each underpinned by 1000 tons of CO2 from Reseed and various blockchain-based carbon credit providers, including Andes.bio, Mangrove DAO, and Solid World mangrove restoration. The proceeds from the collectibles will be dedicated to investments in mangrove restoration, soil regeneration, and mineralization projects that effectively remove or prevent the creation of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Nihar Neelakanti, CEO and Co-founder of Ecosapiens, highlighted the challenges faced by the current carbon offset system and the transformative potential of blockchain and NFTs. “Leveraging the transparent, immutable nature of blockchain, NFTs solve this challenge and help users ensure that their carbon credits are contributing the level of impact promised,” Neelakanti stated. He emphasized that the Polysapien project serves as a model for other companies seeking creative ways to engage their customers and stakeholders in sustainability efforts beyond the Web3 space.

The Polysapiens collection will account for Polygon Labs’ scope 3 emissions for 2023. Notably, most carbon credit providers are on-chain, aligning with Polygon Labs’ strategy to support improvements to the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) through blockchain and frontier technologies. These improvements include transparency, traceability, immutability, trust, and economic fairness, addressing key concerns in the current carbon offset system.

Stefan Renton, Sustainability Lead at Polygon Labs, emphasized the importance of trust and transparency in reporting sustainability commitments. “Our goal with the Polysapiens project is to showcase this while also being more transparent in how we’re working to reduce and account for our climate impact,” Renton explained.

The Polysapiens collection follows the earlier launch of Celosapiens, a dynamic digital collectible series designed to offset the annual carbon emissions generated by the Celo platform. In contrast, the Polysapiens series is an open-edition, generative art collection, allowing unlimited mints and creating entirely unique digital representations of marine life.
